Georgia Highlands College president hopeful...
The president of Georgia Highlands College is hopeful the college will be saved from making any of the long list of potential cuts proposed in February after the Board of Regents asked the institution to prepare a worst-case scenario plan for cutting $2.5 million from its already shrinking budget.
Congratulations Dr. Lucy Megginson!
Great News! Lucy Megginson, nursing faculty, has successfully defended her dissertation and may now be referred to as Dr. Lucinda Megginson.  Her degree is a Ph.D. in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.  Her official graduation date is May 21, 2010.

2010 Charger Fund Campaign Chair
Sarah Burkhalter is the 2010 Community Campaign Chair for the Charger Fund.
Sarah is a retiree of the college and a long time friend and board member of the college Foundation.

Congratulations Dr. Susan Claxton!
We have another new doctor in our midst!
Susan Claxton, Social Sciences faculty, has earned the degree of Doctor of Naturopathy from Clayton College of Natural Health in Birmingham, AL.
For those of us needing a definition, naturopathy involves being and remaining healthy as a whole person, e.g., mind, body, spirit, emotions.
Scholarship Winners Announced
Georgia Highlands College recently hosted its annual scholarship reception to honor both the recipients and the donors of its various scholarships. In all, 62 students were recognized, receiving $58,000 in scholarship awards.

GHC Fares Well in 2011 Budget
But State Funding Still Trending Down Per Student
Georgia Highlands College has been allocated $1.6 million in new funds to support enrollment growth and strategic initiatives for fiscal year 2011 by the Board of Regents.


GHC Alum publishes first book
Cedartown resident Phillip David Lindsey (1991) recently published his first novel called “Endless Lies: Murder in a Small Town.”

The 5th annual Foundation Camp for at-risk boys held on the Floyd campus of Georgia Highlands College is now underway. The camp is offered through a partnership between GHC and the 100 Black Men of Rome/Northwest Georgia. Boys aged 10 to 14 are eligible for two weeks of academics, athletics and cultural enrichment. Jennifer Wright Purcell, Assistant Student Life Director, has accepted a new position with GHC as Academic Advisor and Cooridinator of Service Learning at GHC.  Congratulations!!

New Georgia Speed Limit Law!
New Georgia Speed limit law recently enacted by the state legislature.  The intent is to raise an additional $9 million dollars for the state treasury.

GHC Foundation Camp Is a Tremendous Success
The 5th annual Foundation Camp for at-risk boys held on the Floyd campus of Georgia Highlands College was a tremendous success, with a record number of 92 campers in attendance. The camp is offered annually through a partnership between GHC and the 100 Black Men of Rome/Northwest Georgia. Boys aged 10 to 14 are eligible for two weeks of academics, athletics and cultural enrichment. Breakfast and lunch are served every day and there is no cost to campers. Transportation is provided within Rome.
